About the Artist

I was born and grew up on the beautiful coast of Maine where I graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a B.S. degree in Art Education. I taught art in the school system for 5 1/2 years, but always had the desire to spend more time on my own artwork.

My favorite media have always been pen & ink and charcoal. I enjoy doing detail work and working with light and shadow. The color mediums always seemed to distract me as I became overwhelmed with all the mixing of colors. I guess I would say that working with colored pencils just kind of naturally "clicked" with me. I don't have to mix colors and I can focus on all the details, plus light and shadow. It is, also, a real joy doing animal portraits. I have always loved animals and would love to live on a farm someday with lots of them! I have owned several dogs and cats and have enjoyed their varying personalities and characteristics which I try to capture in each portrait I do.

My husband and I moved back to Maine about 25 years ago where we now live with our current pet, "Mercedes" - our 8 year old tabby kitty.
